We’re back from the west coast after a productive and fun week at Internext, XBiz and AVN. Huge thanks to the show organizers and everyone who met with us in Vegas and LA. As always, we appreciated the chance to speak with, and learn from, so many great people in our industry..
For those who didn’t get a chance to attend these fantastic events, we wanted to share some of the highlights, and hope to catch up with you soon!
Age Verification
Like last year, this was perhaps the number one topic on the minds of webmasters, particularly in the UK, as the deadline for compliance approaches. The good news is that there were a number of age-verification solutions on display to help webmasters ensure compliance with the new legislation. One example was a system that connects to local voter databases at registration to verify that a consumer is of voting age. That was just one of many options demonstrated.
GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation is another important EU directive taking effect this year (in May), and was a hot topic at the shows. Merchants and payment processors alike (that means us) must be in compliance, with documented policies to show how we are protecting European consumer data.
Misc
Other popular topics of discussion included: Virtual Reality, which continues to gain steam; Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and whether/when they will become viable payment options. Since we were in California, recent implementation of legalized recreational cannabis got a lot of buzz, particularly about how synergistic businesses might monetize traffic at the myriad new dispensaries all over the state. Stay tuned.
We hosted the “recovery brunch” at Internext and discussed our upcoming initiatives to help cam merchants manage risk, as well as alternative payout arrangements; and heard a lot of interest in our recently-introduced affiliate program, which is picking up steam. Thank you to everyone who came out to the brunch. We hope to see you at LALEXPO in Cali, Colombia next month and the Phoenix Forum in March!
