Get to Know a SegPay Employee: Teresa

Teresa Grisham-Van Eps

When asked what makes SegPay a successful company and a great place to work, we have an easy answer: our people. We know every company says that, but we really mean it! (Oh, right, everyone says that too 🙂 ). OK, well then we’re going to try and prove it by spotlighting some of our most dedicated, caring, smart, and interesting employees on… a somewhat regular basis. So, welcome to the first in our new, ongoing series: Get to Know a SegPay Employee. Today, our multi-named (and talented) marketing manager, Teresa Grisham-Van Eps.

What do you do?

I assist merchants in onboarding with our service, getting up and running with taking payments, and then just being here to help them in any way.

What brought you to SegPay?

We’re growing! More merchants are using our traditional Payment Facilitator arrangement, and now that we’ve launched a gateway we have an emerging base of e-commerce shops and recurring-subscription content providers that need support.

The best thing about working here?

The Florida weather, of course! No, seriously… SegPay is a truly ethical company that genuinely cares for its clients and employees, and takes pride in its work. We aren’t perfect, but there’s a real effort to get a little bit better every day.

Share something you think people should know about SegPay but probably don’t.

You already said it: our employees are some of the most dedicated, loyal, and dependable people I have ever worked with. The core SegPay team started this firm from scratch over a decade ago and is largely still intact. That says it all!

Have any wisdom about life you’d like to share with our audience?

It’s a cliche, but don’t sweat the small stuff or take life too seriously. I lost my mom recently to Huntington’s Chorea, a terrible disease that leads to mental deterioration and loss of muscular control. I don’t mean to bring everyone down, but if there was anything my mother taught me while I watched her fight this awful disease, it was to never forget to smile. We can’t control the uncontrollable, but we can certainly control how we choose to deal with things.

Can you recommend any favorite books or TV shows?

I’m a single parent of four, I wish I had time for books and TV! 🙂 Seriously, I stay as involved as possible in my kids’ activities so it’s rare to find those diversions, but I have read most of Mitch Albom’s books and loved them all.

Favorite place you’ve traveled?

That’s easy: the 50th US state, Hawaii. I actually lived on Oahu for a brief time. Seeing an active volcano up close was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

Favorite tool for organizing your work?

I’m a throwback: pen and paper. I make lots of checklists.

Hometown?

Cherry Hill, NJ, a suburb of Philadelphia (Go Eagles!), and home to some of the best tomatoes you’ll find. It’s why NJ is known as the Garden State.
